PsychologyWhat is Dissociative Identity Disorder
One of my college friends has this peculiar habit of doing things while asleep, only to wake up without any memory of what she had done the previous night. It is already typical for her to stand up, change to her pajamas, and return to her bed while sleeping all the time. No, it wasn't typical sleep walking, because sleepwalking really has no point at all. On the contrary, my friend acts as if she already knows what to do. There are also times when she will just wake up, look at you in an intriguing manner, go back to sleep, and forget everything that happened. We always tease her for having a memory of a goldfish, because even when she's awake, she tends to forget a lot. Another friend, who took some psychology units during her last term, diagnosed her condition in an amateurish manner as having Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). This is a psychological condition where a person is described to have multiple distinct personalities, each of which is distinct compared to the others. Associated symptoms with this disorder are extensive memory loss (worse than what is normal) and the obvious different personalities. It should be that the symptoms were not the result of drug abuse. There's still much debate over this disorder. A lot of quarters claim that more than a proven psychological disorder, DID is just actually a diagnosis used in order to describe some other undiagnosed psychological condition. Not much has been said about this disorder as scientists continue to make studies about it. It seems very movie-like from a layman's point of view, but there's actually a condition like this one. If it's true, then my friend really has a lot of problems. Having one kind of personality is bad enough. Having more than one kind is already unthinkable. It's even worse for the people she interacts with, because it becomes difficult to find out which of the different alter egos come into play. You can talk about...
