Thank author of this post/comment

When my grandmother was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer in 2007, she never sported a sad face. She and my mom arrived from the hospital and lively told everyone in the house that she has a cancer.

When she said that, it felt like the wind just stopped blowing and everything were in suspended animation. We were teary eyed, but she was there, standing in front of us without any sign of remorse.

"You should see your faces." This were the words she said when we don't seem to break our silence and sadness about her revelation. My mom was there my crying by her side.

Realizing that her comic approach won't work, she ordered us to gather around and hear what she has to say.

"I'm 81 and I have had a great life. I am grateful that God gave me a long life and a great family. This cancer in me, it's not a disease. It's just His way to notify me that he wants me by His side any moment now."

She never went for a chemo, despite our strong urge for her to undergo one. She didn't want us to do anything "foolish" to prolong her life. She has already accepted her fate. And it's one that she never regret.

She lived for another year and a half. She died on a Sunday, exactly 3 years ago. She may have left this world physically, but my admiration for her will forever live.
